Glossy pictorial cover shows some wear, rubbing evident to bottom edges of front/rear covers, base of spine bumped. Previous owner name stamped on front free endpaper and front pastedown. Dust jacket shows some edgwear, has one closed tear to front panel along top edge. Dust jacket contains all first printing points (Younger/Hirsh) except for lack of price on dust jacket flap. Cliff Erickson of To & Again Books notes this anomaly is not documented in Younger/Hirsh and according to his research is more scarce than the DJ with the $2.50 price. Peter Glassman from Books of Wonder concludes, however that it is more likely a “Cat in the Hat Book Club” edition, however there are not the expected Book Club markings found on other titles. . Random House discontinued printing dust jackets for this title the year after its initial publication.
